Episode 059 – Charles Villard – has an associates degree in Mass Communications. After studying Journalism he was faced with the reality of how to support a family as he learned he was to become a dad. That led him to evaluate his options and that led to the beginning of his journey to get into tech.
In his journey of learning to be a frontend developer he found himself in a scenario where he had to choose which frontend framework to use. That choice led to using Vuejs the fastest growing frontend framework today. Earlier this year I had the privilege of hearing Charles give his first speech at a tech conference about how they chose Vue. Charles is also active in the community where he is the organizer for frontend Miami which is a meetup group for web developers and front-end engineers. Today Charles will talk about his journey from self taught to frontend developer as well as speaking.

Charles Villard

Charles Villard is a web developer with a passion for front-end JavaScript development, static site generators, and keeping the web accessible and available to all. A former journalism student during the advent of digital media, Charles started teaching himself to code in 2014 in the hopes of learning to tell interactive and engrossing stories, but more importantly, to better provide for his newborn daughter and family. The more he learned, the broader his perspective on web development became until he decided to pursue it full-time. Since then, he has worked on projects scaling from small local businesses to large enterprise. During his downtime, Charles is likely cooking, raising his two daughters, or reading up on development trends that pique his interests.
